Emeritus Professor Paul Dummer BDS, MScD, PhD, DDSc, FDS RCS (Ed)
Paul graduated from the School of Dentistry, Welsh National School of Medicine, UK in 1973 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and completed his MScD in 1980 and PhD in 1987. He was awarded a senior doctorate in dental science (DDSc) in 2002 on the basis of his research record in Endodontology. He has published over 350 original scientific articles, written several chapters in textbooks and recently edited a new book – Endodontic Advances and Evidence-based Clinical Guidelines:https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/book/10.1002/9781119553939.
Paul was a Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University, UK from 1995 to 2017 and Vice Dean between 2005 and 2011. He was Dean for Education and Students in the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, Cardiff University from 2011 to 2017, with overall responsibility for the quality of education in seven schools, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Optometry, Psychology and Biosciences.
Paul was a Clinical Consultant in Restorative Dentistry with the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board (2000 to 2017) and a registered specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics with the UK General Dental Council (2000-2017). He was Director of the 3-year Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Endodontology) programme at Cardiff from 2010 to 2017. He retired in 2017 and is now an Emeritus Professor with Cardiff University.
Paul was Editor-in-Chief of the International Endodontic Journal (1999-2021) and President of the European Society of Endodontology (2020-2021) having been Editor from 2001-2008, Secretary from 2009-2017 and Interim Chief Executive Officer from 2017 to 2019.
Dr N Venkatesh Babu BDS, MDS FDS RCPS (Glasgow), PHD
Venkatesh Babu N is an Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry, College of Dental Medicine, University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He is also a visiting professor at the School of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. He has a background in academia and research that spans over 14 years. He has published 162 peer-reviewed papers and has been awarded 21 research projects totaling approximately $101,000 USD. He is the recipient of the “Young Achiever” award in 2016 and the “Master Class” award in 2021 by the Conservative and Endodontic Association of Tamilnadu, India. He also won the “Young Investigator Award – Research & Publication (Individual category)” from the International Medical University, Malaysia, in 2018 and 2019. He is a project leader for the development of reporting guidelines for various study designs in Endodontology -“Preferred Reporting Items for Endodontic Study Designs (PRIDE)”. His research interests include evidence-based dentistry and the application of antimicrobial peptides/nano formulations for root canal disinfection. He is currently an Associate Editor for the International Endodontic Journal, the official journal of the British Endodontic Society and the European Endodontic Society and also serves as Associate Editor for Dental Traumatology, the official journal of the International Association of Dental Traumatology. He is a Guest Certified member of the European Society of Endodontology.
